Political Science Department is suited to students who are interested in social and political issues of the contemporary world, who want to get involved in political life and decide on the future shape of their region and community. It is also aimed at those who wish to pursue careers in the media, advertising and communication industries. Programmes emphasise the role of Public Relations in the functioning of institutions and companies and equips students with an in-depth understanding of international relations and policy-making. The wide range of themes covered by the courses within Political Science Department opens door to many attractive careers and enhance students' employability on the labour market.

Our graduates can work in a range of different governmental and non-governmental organisations, political institutions as well as the private and corporate sector. They may also find employment in advertising agencies, PR agencies, the media and press, work as spokesmen or political image consultants. Our former students are found in various managerial positions, supervising different projects, managing human resources, developing business strategies - both in public administration and business. After three and a half years of studies graduates receive a Bachelor's degree and may continue their education towards a Master's degree.

Our students also participate in the work experience placement programme - after the first year of study they work for a public relations agency of their choice, and after the second year of study - in the media (students choose the media that interest them best - magazine editors, radio or television stations). Students are also involved in promotional activities for the University, they have an opportunity to participate in trade fairs, design advertising materials and organize local and nationwide events, which are often broadcast by the Polish television.

Our academic staff comprise leading experts in their fields associated with renowned Polish universities and successful professionals such as PR practitioners, TV, radio and press journalists.

 Major: Internal safety

With a view to the modern labour market, we propose studies on the specialty of internal security. Studies are a great start to a career in the Police, Border Guard, State Fire Service, government administration, inspections and many other units. Classes will be conducted by specialists - practitioners from: Police Headquarters, Provincial and District Police Headquarters, forensics laboratory.

Selected contents of education:

Classes are a continuation of education in uniformed high school and 16 specialist subjects, including:

- police law,

- self-defence and means of direct coercion,

- counteracting and combating crime,

- protection of persons, property, objects, areas, and borders,

- basics of forensics,

- ethics of uniformed services.

Courses related to self-defence will be conducted in the gymnasium, and physical education classes will be directed to fitness tests for uniformed services.

The graduate obtains knowledge and skills in the area of:

- defining threats in the area of state security,

- functioning and powers of uniformed services, caring for state security, with particular emphasis on the police as the largest uniformed formation,

- main mechanisms of human behaviour in difficult (crisis) situations and manifestations of social pathologies, social security, including local communities,

- performing administration and management activities mainly in the sphere of internal security at work and in personal life,

- conducting negotiations in crisis situations,

- practical prevention and mitigation of the effects of any threats in various areas of the functioning of the state and citizens,

- application of legal provisions necessary to work in uniformed services and institutions related to state security,

- rules of using means of direct coercion and weapons,

- operational activity of uniformed services, including special services.


Major: E-business and Social Media

This major is dedicated for:

- People who want to gain knowledge and skills in area of social sciences which are  necessary in business practice;

- People interested in modern business models and communication tools;

- Specialists operating in e-business sector of any enterprise, organizations and institutions which perform their activities with the use of World Wide Web;

- People interested in starting modern business;

- People conducting their own economic activity who want to increase their knowledge and develop new skills.

The major is an answer to current needs of the labor market. Modern preparation for running one’s own business with the use of strong theoretical and practical socio-economic knowledge is becoming a need in economic reality.
Competences gained during this course include organization and management of economic ventures implemented with the use of various electronic media and Internet. Leading theme is economical use of the Internet.

Graduate acquires practical and theoretical skills in areas of:

- Economic and social policy, political systems in context of conducting own business;

- Economy, accounting and taxes;

- Capital investments and financial strategies;

- Marketing, including the use of social networks in promotion of economic activity;

- Use of methods of gaining information and knowledge for needs of e-business;

- Use of safety tools for e-business ventures.  


Major: Communication - Public Relations 

This course is intended for graduates who want to pursue careers in: 

- media relations; 

- advertising and marketing; 

- social communication; 

- professional image consultancy; 

- public relations; 

The main themes explored on this course include:

interpersonal communication;

- information policies;

- information package;

- negotiations;

- mechanisms of human motivation;

- methods and techniques in social research;

- event management;

- political propaganda;

- ethics;

- political marketing;

- rhetoric and the art of public speaking.

In addition to the core training in PR, the programme also offers a wide range of other courses, which cover: Information Technology, economics, psychology of negotiation, two foreign languages, general history of the 20th century, history of Poland, the world's political systems, history of culture and art, sociology, socialpsychology. Students will also gain some practical skills, useful for PR practitioners, e.g. they can take a professional video camera course.

Students will acquire knowledge and practical skills in the fields of: 

- establishing and maintaining good relationships with the public, the media, political environment and contractors; 

- building positive internal public relations in a company; 

- effective communication; 

- conducting negotiations; 

- business sponsorship; 

- effective self-presentation (appearance, body language, etc.); 

- social influence and persuasion; 

- the modern media market; 

- establishing a public relation budget.


Major: Regional and Local Self – Government Policy

This course is intended for graduates who want to pursue careers in:

- public service, local government units and government agencies; 

- politics, working with political parties, domestic and international economic organizations, social institutions, constituency offices, etc.; 

- the media, e.g. radio or television.

The major in Regional and Local Self – Government Policy aims to train future perssonel of local, regional and national public service and to provide graduates with skills essential for careers in politics and policy-making.

The main themes explored on this course include:

- methods of project management for commercial and public sectors; 

- management of local and regional development; 

- regional and local self-government policy. 

Graduates will acquire knowledge and practical skills in: 

- administrative and local government law; 

- structure and operation of regional governments and local government institutions; 

- regional and local economic policy; 

- sociology of local communities; 

- local media; 

- environmental protection on a local scale; 

- local conflict management;

- planning and implementing activities to benefit local communities; these include: obtaining funds from the central budget and the European Union, building a stronger civil society in the region, c management. 


Major: Journalism and Social Media

This major is designed for:

- People interested in working in newspapers, radio TV, Internet, information services and agencies, as well as in area of widely understood Public Relations;

- People interested in the exchange of information;

- People planning to work in modern marketing;

- Practitioners of PR responsible for image creation and information exchange;

- Employees of consulting companies working in Public Relations sector.

Program of studies introduces to issues necessary for all press professionals, inter alia copyrights, ethic of journalism, protection of intellectual property, media systems in the world and two foreign languages, sociology and psychology. Students receive tools for independent collection, gradation and analysis of information. After 3 years of studies, graduate receives a diploma of first degree studies and is able to continue studies of second degree.

- Journalist workshop, media and Public Relations;

- Implementation of journalist tasks and fixing problems faced by media institutions;

- Use of social media for effective spread of information;

- Establishing and maintaining contacts with the public opinion, the media, political environment and contractors with use of modern information technologies;

- Effective communication;

- Effective advertisement;

- Rules of social influence and persuasive interactions.
